Curious as to how you and Career Services can work together? The following is a step-by-step outline that begins when you first start classes.
Step 1. Prepare a Resume
Resumes are a crucial element in a successful job search. RMC provides two sources for resume preparation.
a) The the Career Management courses teach you how to write a specialized resume appropriate to your internship or career search.
b) The Office of Career Services offers resume assistance to students and graduates.
It is important you give your best effort to create a resume that is concise and professional. Your resume should be an accurate reflection of your knowledge, skills, and abilities. Employers make their first judgments about you based upon this very important piece of paper.
Step 2. How are your interviewing skills?
The interview is the most important component of acquiring a job. (Some will say it weighs more than your GPA!) Again, RMC provides two sources to help you prepare for your interview.
a) The the Career Management Training courses that teach you how to develop and practice sharp interviewing techniques.
b) The Office of Career Services offers practice interviews to students and graduates.
Step 3. Working part-time while going to school.
Classes have begun but you find you need some extra cash to help make ends meet. Do you have time for part-time work? There are three sources for jobs that would fit your needs.
- Part-Time Work
- Federal Work-Study
- Illinois Cooperative Work Study Program
Step 4. Working full-time while going to school.
If you have completed your minimum degree requirement at RMC and attend classes during the evening, Career Services will assist you in your full-time job search.
Step 5. You are graduating.
As a representative of RMC, you want to shine in the competitive world of job hunting. Schedule a meeting with Career Services at least one quarter before graduating.
Step 6. An alumnus looking for a new job.
Career Services will assist you throughout your career as an RMC graduate! Please keep in touch with your Career Services Advisor on a regular basis to share how you are faring in the competitive job market.
