The Robert Morris University-Illinois Junior Varsity League of Legends team has claimed the 2019 Collegiate Starleague Championship after besting the University of Waterloo by a score of 3-2 in the CSL Grand Finals, held on April 28th at the Adrian Phillips Theater in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The Eagles Junior Varsity League of Legends squad is led by coordinator Adam Farm and features team members Jakob Adbad (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.), Seungwon Jung (FR/Palatine, Ill.), Josh Koskinen (FR/Randolph, N.J.), Grant Welling (SO/Versailles, Ky.), and Chris Zuley (FR/Park Ridge, Ill.).
To reach the Collegiate Starleague Grand Finals, Robert Morris finished 6-1 in league play—the team’s only loss coming to Illinois Academy in mid-November. Along the way, the Eagles claimed regular season victories against Saint Xavier, Bradley, Northwestern, and DePaul, before advancing to the CSL playoffs where they took down San Jose State, Penn State, Virginia Commonwealth, and the University of Manitoba to reach the championship event in Atlantic City.
In the CSL Winners Finals, Robert Morris downed the University of Montreal to reach the Grand Finals match against the University of Waterloo—which began the series trailing 1-0 after emerging victorious from the CSL Losers Finals. Waterloo would start fast in the title match, however, winning the first two games to take a 2-1 lead. From there, the Eagles would win three-straight to defeat the Warriors and claim the 2019 CSL Championship—along with the $5,000 purse.
