Robert Morris University IL isn’t your typical style of education. It’s innovative…it’s collaborative… it’s transferable… and the things you do here will change your life. In between studies, practices, and jobs, take the time to check out—and check off—some of the opportunities and adventures that can define your RMYou experience.
☐Go to an Athletic Event
RMU is home to 42 athletic programs which include varsity and varsity reserve team, club sports, Esports, spirit teams and performing arts ensembles. Make plans to attend a game or performance and cheer on your Eagles!
☐Take a Picture With Sir Morris
You will find our eagle mascot, Sir Morris, around campus and at various sports games. Be sure to snap a selfie with him.
☐Make Forever Friends
College is a place to make lifelong friendships. At RMU, you will have many opportunities to find people to connect with. If you need a little help finding people with similar interests, see the next item on this list.
☐Join a Club
There are many great benefits to joining a club while you’re attending college. Joining a club is a great way to meet new friends with similar interests. It’s also a great opportunity to meet people in your future profession and to make networking connections. Plus, it looks great on your resume. If RMU doesn’t have a club you’re interested in, you can start your own!
☐Explore Neighborhoods and Culture
Many of the best cultural experiences are just a short train ride from our main Chicago campus. Immerse yourself in Chicago culture by exploring neighborhoods like Pilsen, China Town, Greek Town, and Little Italy, just to name a few.
Studying abroad is an experience unlike any other. Students have the opportunity to study in a foreign nation and take in the allure and culture of a new land. *Multiple studies have shown that study abroad positively and unequivocally influences the career path, world-view, and self-confidence of students. Check out RMU’s study abroad opportunities here.
☐Go to the Lake
Don’t just look at the beautiful view of the lake from your dorm room, go enjoy it! Take a run or rent a Divvy and bike along the lakefront. Feel like relaxing instead? Visit one of many Chicago beaches and soak up some sun.
☐View Chicago from Up Top
The Willis Tower is a Chicago icon. The eighth-tallest building in the world, it remains the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, standing 1,450 feet and 110 stories tall. Head to the 103rd floor of the tower to enjoy views of up to 50 miles and four states. While you’re there, see if you can spot our Chicago campus.
☐Take a Class for FUN
As part of your course load, you are required to take elective classes. This is the time to explore your different interests. We offer many fun options including comedy writing, painting, photography and cooking classes. Talk to your academic advisor about your interests, and they can help you choose classes that you’ll enjoy.
☐Ice Skate at Maggie Daley Park
During the winter months, visit Maggie Daley Park for ice skating. The skating ribbon is twice the length of a lap around a traditional skating rink. Be sure to enjoy a cup of hot cocoa when you visit.
☐Get Lost in a Museum
No matter which campus you attend, there are plenty of museums to explore nearby. Visit findmuseums.org to find a museum near you. Be sure to watch for free museum days and ask about student discounts!
☐Study at the Library
RMU’s library is not your typical library. The Library at our Chicago campus has been perfectly described by staff as, “the heart of campus”. Both resident and commuter students find themselves at the library when they’re looking for a nice place to hang with friends, eat the food they just grabbed down the street, take a nap in our armchairs alongside the windows, or just watch some videos on YouTube.
☐Sign up for an ICenter Project
The Center for Professional Advancement provides meaningful experiential opportunities to students through ICenter projects. Students take initiative, make decisions, and are accountable for results with real clients. This is another item you can add to your resume.
☐Really Take the Time to Get to Know Faculty
Building a good relationship with your college professors has many advantages, and can add so much value to your degree. Take advantage of your student engagement hour and visit them if you need advice or extra help on class assignments. They are there to help YOU succeed. RMU college professors are experts in their field and have extensive professional networks. If you can prove that you are a hard working student, they might think of you when they hear about a great opportunity. They are also a great resource when you need a letter of recommendation.
The ultimate goal of your college experience is to graduate. Celebrate and never forget your success. We can’t wait to cheer you on as you walk across the stage! We hope you’ll keep in touch by joining our alumni association!
Be sure to use #RMYou to document your experiences.
