The primary purpose of an academic advising program is to assist students in the development of meaningful educational plans that are compatible with their life goals. Therefore, academic advising should be viewed as continuous process of clarification and evaluation. The advising relationship begins a student’s transition to Robert Morris University. Maintaining that relationship through to graduation provides students with a resource that encourages guidance, support, and professional development.

Frequently Asked Academic Advising Questions
A: You are assigned an Academic Advisor by your major. At Registration, you will have an opportunity to meet your Advisor as you register for classes. They will give you their phone number, email, and location. If you would like to contact your Academic Advisor now, please view our Advisor Directory.
A: For anything! Your Advisor is available to assist with registration, making class schedule changes, when you are having difficulty in a class, and even when you are interested in joining a club or student organization. They are your link to every resource RMU has to offer! If you are a new student, make sure to contact your advisor for your individual planning meeting to discuss your academic plan and to determine your graduation date.
A: First and foremost, RMU must receive an official university transcript before
any transfer of credit is awarded. Once your official transcript has been reviewed by the Registrar, credit will be awarded where applicable. Contact your Academic Advisor to see how these credits affect your academic plan. Chances are you may be able to graduate sooner, so make sure that RMU has your transcripts as soon as possible.
General guidelines for accepting transfer of credit:
- Earned at an accredited college/university
- C grade or better
- 100 level classes or higher
- Minimum number of credit hours
A: Let’s get started! On your first day of class you must pick up your official
Schedule. RMU staff will be available to direct you to the appropriate sign-in area, which is typically divided by Academic Advisor or major. Your Schedule will list your classes with their days, times, and location. You will also need to pick up your student ID and CTA U-pass (Chicago location only). Make sure to check the signs posted around location. They will inform you of upcoming location events.
