Architectural Technology Degree

Prepare for a Successful Career Through RMU’s BPS Architectural Technology Degree

Have you considered an education to become an architectural technician? At Robert Morris University Illinois, our bachelor of Professional Studies in Architectural Technology Degree will provide the professional experience that prepares you to become the vital link between the architect and a construction crew. An architectural technologist uses a combination of professional expertise, interpersonal skills, design ability and knowledge of computer applications to communicate complex technical information. With RMU’s main campus in the heart of downtown Chicago, students taking our architecture classes will be surrounded by the “Architecture Mecca” which lies outside the University’s walls.

RMU’s Architecture Classes Provide Students the Education To Become an Architectural Technologist

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, architect occupations such as an architectural technician are expected to grow 7% through 2024 which will provide increased job potential for architectural technologists. Through RMU’s architectural courses, graduates will find themselves primed for such jobs as architectural solution specialist, sustainable construction specialist, layout designer, engineering technician, architectural drafter, CAD drafter/technician and construction planner/coordinator.

During the program, students will complete the professional studies core which focuses on the foundations of professional practice including financial planning, marketing, project management and facilities management. The BPS Architectural Technology Degree concentration and thematic sequences elective courses are designed as a “cap” for student’s junior/senior years and will provide qualified students a seamless transition with little or no loss of credit. The architecture courses will help develop advanced architectural technologist skills and abilities to complement those acquired in their first two years.

RMU’s Architecture Courses Open the Doors to Those Looking to Become an Architectural Technician

Through the Architectural Technology professional concentration’s architecture classes, students will be able to support architects and managers with space planning, and construction of commercial and residential building designs using architectural drafting and computer-assisted drafting skills. Students will acquire the skills needed to become an architectural technician and will have a foundation in construction methods, material and processes; building codes and standards; “green” construction; safety and accessibility.

The program enables students to broaden their career expectations through development of skills and knowledge needed for multifaceted, public- or private-sector career roles related to their Architectural Technology Degree major.
