RMU’s Exercise and Sports Studies Program Prepares Students for a Fitness Career
Equipping students for a successful career in the health and wellness field, Robert Morris University Illinois offers an Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS) through our Exercise and Sports Studies program. The program is designed to prepare students who are looking at fitness degrees or sports science degrees for a professional career in a variety of fitness settings such as private health clubs, corporate fitness, community sports, recreation or as a personal trainer. RMU’s Associate Degree in Exercise and Sports Studies curriculum provides instruction and application of the theoretical components of health and exercise, and principles of fitness training. Coursework includes exercise science, anatomy and exercise physiology, biomechanics, fitness assessment and programming and injury prevention.
A Solid Associate Degree With Real-Word Education
Students will participate in applied fitness and sports activities as part of their Exercise and Sports Studies classes. Through experienced-based learning (EbL), students will gain real-world experience through field internships, work with RMU student athletes, service learning projects and volunteer opportunities. With their Associate Degree, students will be able to communicate effectively with clients, athletes and personnel, evaluate health and lifestyle information, and design safe and effective physical activity programs that adhere to all regulations, and procedures within the recognized scope of practice for fitness professionals.
By earning an AAS in Exercise and Sports Studies, students interested in furthering their education with a Bachelor Degree have the opportunity to begin working directly in the field while continuing their coursework. Additionally, the program is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and credentials to sit for certifications including those to become certified fitness professionals through the American College of Sports Medicine as a certified personal trainer or group exercise instructor.
