Robert Morris University Illinois is seeking a highly motivated CHOIR INSTRUCTOR with strong choral,
inter-personal, collaborative and organizational skills for its Chicago campus. The ideal candidate should be
committed to the education and recruitment of students and be passionate about growing a comprehensive
performing arts department. This part-time position, calls for an individual with a commitment to choral
education and the ability to supervise and direct the activities of a developing university choir program. They
will administer all facets of the choir program in accordance with the University.
• Supervise and coordinate all activities related to the choir program, its staff and students
• Oversee and approve all choir performances, events and productions
• Select and direct diverse choral music literature representative of all styles, periods, genres for school
and public performances
• Develop and update choir curriculum as needed
• Teach vocal technique to individuals and groups
• Accompany choir students on piano during all rehearsals and performances
• Audition students and assign voice parts
• Purchase all needed materials within an allocated budget in cooperation with the Performing Arts
• Secure and reserve rehearsal and performance facilities with building administration
• Formulate and implement the choral arts rehearsal/performance schedule
• Develop syllabus in accordance with Performing Arts Department expectations and guidelines which
addresses concert dress, rehearsal and performance attendance expectations and rules and regulations
regarding the conduct of the choir students
• Build and maintain the Choral Library including computerized inventory
• Attend all required department meetings and events
• Demonstrate the ability to recruit quality students, develop, and retain those students, while providing
sound choral experiences
• Assist in student fund raising events for the Performing Arts Department
• Represent the choir program at RMU recruitment events
• Visit high school choral programs for recruitment purposes
• Must have prior experience teaching or overseeing a choral music program
• Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 3-5 years teaching experience
