Studying abroad is an experience unlike any other. Students have the opportunity to study in a foreign nation and take in the allure and culture of a new land. Studies by IES Abroad have shown that study abroad positively and unequivocally influences the career path, world-view, and self-confidence of students.

The following are study abroad and service learning opportunities offered each year at RMU:  

FLORENCE has been the destination for RMU students abroad for over a decade. As a student abroad you will participate in courses at Florence University of Arts as well as complete an international internship. You will spend 7 weeks learning about the country, the city, the culture and your industry. You will reside in apartments situated in the historic city center of Florence within walking distance of the campuses, markets and famous sites. Open to all sophomore-level or higher students.

HAMBURG has been the destination of technology and media students abroad participating in an academic and professional setting. As an RMU student abroad you will spend the quarter (6 weeks abroad) learning about the country, the city, the culture and your industry in the global market. You will interact with G18’s students and faculty in the Design Thinking & Entrepreneurship course and then complete an internship at an international company. You will reside in student housing where you will have the opportunity to meet people from around the world. Open to all junior-level or higher students.

LONDON study abroad has been a graduate school event snuggled between Summer 1 and Summer 2, taking advantage of Week 0. The itinerary is full of field research meeting with business owners, civic leaders and experiencing sites rich with history. And, if one is especially adventurous, time is set aside to travel to neighboring countries as some did – to the cities of Paris and Rome, along with the breathtaking countryside of Tuscany in the northern part of Italy.  

Now in 2017, undergraduate students are invited to join the graduate students heading to London for an immersion experience covering the history, culture and business aspect of the United Kingdom at Regent’s University of London. Open to all junior-level or higher students and graduate students.

DEADLINE TO APPLY IS FEBRUARY 28, 2017

As an RMU student abroad you will spend 6 weeks with16 credits learning about Asia (Japan and Taiwan) – mainly in Tokyo and Taipei cities, the Asian culture and business in the global market. This program includes a one-week visit in Japan, a two-week intensive Design-Centric Business Model workshop and competition, and a three-week external internship in local Taiwan corporates.

PARIS has been the destination of business students abroad seeking to expand their academic setting internationally. As an RMU student abroad, you will spend time learning about the country, the city, the culture and the global market. You will attend courses at the American Business School of Paris and reside in one of their student housing complexes where you will have the opportunity to meet people from around the world.

TRAVEL DATES: SPRING 2018

Spend a week in Appalachia learning about health, safety, and sustainability through community partners (from lawyers to farmers). Appalachia is rich with its own culture, history and pace of life. You will visit wellness centers, talk with business leaders and get hands-on experience at local farms all working together to promote exercise and healthy eating. This opportunity is open to all sophomore-level or higher students in health studies and will apply toward coursework. Students must be enrolled Spring 2 or Summer quarter.

Cost is tuition + $2,300 and includes: transportation, housing, meals and cultural activities.

TRAVEL DATES: JULY 5 – JULY 12, 2017

DEADLINE TO APPLY IS MAY 1, 2017

Spend a week being immersed in the culture of Puerto Rico. Students will learn about its culture, history, cuisine, climate, language and healthcare system that Puerto Rico differs in from the mainland of the USA. You will also gain hands-on experience working with environmental issues in the Mangroves in Guaynabo and with organizations working with children, youth and literacy. This opportunity is open to all sophomore-level or higher students in health studies and will apply toward coursework. Students must be enrolled in the Fall quarter.

Cost is tuition + $4,100 and includes: airfare, transportation, housing, meals and cultural activities.

Study Abroad Cost:

Undergraduate: RMU quarterly tuition + Study Abroad fee of $5,500 for London, Hamburg and Taipei, or $8,000 for Florence
Graduate: RMU graduate per-course tuition + Study Abroad fee $5,500

Study Abroad Fees include: Round-trip airfare from Chicago, Airport transfers at Destination, Housing, Travel in Cultural Perspectives course (undergrad) or Field Research (graduate), public transportation pass when applicable, and insurance.

Federal and state financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

  • Complete the study abroad application.
  • Completion of 5 quarters (unless otherwise noted) prior to departure.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Reference from student’s academic advisor
  • Completed FAFSA, SIGNED financial aid plan and a $0 financial-aid balance by February 15
  • $300 deposit*

*A $300 deposit is required at the time of application. It is returned in the form of a credit to the applicant’s account if they are NOT accepted not the program. If accepted, it is credited upon return, if there are no housing damages, flight changes, or any expenses incurred by the student due to negligence.
